Summary
You will be the primary responsible for the implementation, administration and optimisation of the clients global splunk infrastructure, which consist of numerous globally distributed search heads, indexers, hundreds of log sources and various supporting syslog servers.
Within a team of two other dedicated splunk engineers, your job is to ensure optimal performance of both indexing and searching with scalability in mind. You will manage the servers, manage the configurations of both server and clients, onboard new assets, ensure disk space is appropriately managed, advise on what technology to use for the job (summary index, kvstore, lookup,…) and expand the splunk infrastructure further to ensure all log management needs within the environment are fulfilled.
This role expects you to have extensive experience in managing and optimising large-scale splunk environments.

Technical skills
- Excellent Linux skills
- Extensive experience in administrating large splunk environments using distributed search, clustering and deployment monitor
- Strong in splunk performance tweaking, relevant to the use cases using summary indexes, accelerated searches, pivot, gap fill, lookup tables
- Good with kvstore and data models
- Excellent in optimizing splunk indexes: buckets transition, merging indexes
- Able to troubleshoot index or search issues by going through the buckets on filesystem
- Strong in splunk advanced search syntax
- Strong in managing syslog daemons such as rsyslog, syslog-ng as well as configuring logrotate based on log criticality and available disk space
- Able to manage splunk without using the GUI - entirely using OS configuration files, splunkd commands, REST API and python scripts
- Strong OS scripting background
